My dream has always been to complete a Ph.D. in Computer Science and do research in the field. However, my problem in undergrad was my maturity and effective study skills. I went to Engineering for undergrad (in Computer Science and Engineering) at a top-10 engineering program but due to my early adjustment issues, I achieved an overall GPA of just 2.86/4.0. However, on the positive side, my last 60 credits GPA in undergrad is 3.23/4.0. I also took the GRE this past August 2010 and achieved a 1410/1600 (770 Q, 640 V). I graduated in 2003 and have been working for the past 7 years in the Computer Science field. Through my self-motivation and desire to do well, I was quickly promoted to manager at one of the elite multi-national consulting firms. While I am happy with my job, I really would like to follow my dream of doing computer science from a competitive school. Given my GPA woes, I felt it would be better to apply to master’s programs in Computer Science and produce excellent grades in order to build a strong case for admission to competitive Ph.D. programs. I just wanted to know if a strong master’s gpa would help me obtain admission to a top 25 Ph.D. program or if it is not really going to help much? Thanks in advance for your help! Also just to add, I am a US citizen and had a high 3.9 GPA in high school.
