ParticipantHi,
I am a sophomore at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. I am a neuroscience major who will be taking the MCATS next summer and applying to medical school. I am writing because I am very concerned about getting into medical school. Since a young age, I have had a passion for medicine and that has not changed. In terms of applying, my main concern right now is my gpa (3.2). It’s difficult because I know that the gpa for my major will be much higher (at least a 3.4). I have also had a lot of clinical experience to include Spanish tranlasting at med clinics in D.C. as well as in Williamsburg. I have also shadowed a pediatrician since freshman year and plan to start doing research next year (my junior year) with a professor. I am also in a (competitive medial relief program) that travels to the Dominican Republic yearly to provide medical aid. I havedone other service projects in other countries as well (i.e. Costa Rica). I also KNOW that my essay will be strong simply because of my life history which has driven me to know what and who I want to be in life. I am an offical orphan of the county and know the true definition of strength and fighting for what I want for myself. Sorry this is rather long, I just know my passion for medicine is a lot stronger than most, but not all, of students applying to medical school who seem to “on the edge” about what they want to do in life. I know what I want to do, and my deepest fear is for admission people to see my gpa and not even look at my application. Any advice you have on this would be great. THANKS!Melanie
