ParticipantHi there.
I was wondering what my chances are in getting into medical school.
My total GPA (unweighted) is 3.35. (3.0 freshman year, 3.7 sophomore year…I was really sick freshman year and I’ve been doing well since). Haven’t taken the MCATs yet but I’m studying.
-4 years hospice volunteering
-I’m working on geriatric research now with a doctor. I’ll be published by the end of the summer.
-Know Spanish and Latin.
-took a trip to India to work in hospice. Will do this again next summer.I’m open to a wide range of MD schools but I’d love to get into Uni Of Rochester. Both my parents went there for medical school. I am very familiar now with the curriculum and geriatric programs and I love it. That is where I am doing research and am re-taking Calc and Physics (got a C in) over the summer so I don’t have to re-take over the school year.
I go to Allegheny College, btw.
How do my chances look?

ParticipantThank you.
Yep, I’m taking them at a very good 4 year school. The calc and physics only go toward my premed requirements, not my major, so I don’t even have to get them transferred in. I may just send the separate transcript to the med school.
My parents (both MDs) and my professors suggested against the community college so I’m following their advice.
Thanks again for your advice.

Participanti there!
No no, I’m not transferring colleges.
I’m just re-taking my Physics and Calc courses over the summer at a local, reputable 4 year school.
I am doing this because I got a C in both and my college won’t let me re-take the courses because I didn’t fail…I just got a C. So I am retaking them at the University which has the medical school that I really, really want to get into. (parents went there)
I was told that it was better to re-take the classes at a good 4 year school and NOT a community college.
I think it was those 2 courses that really brought down my GPA. All my other science courses have gone well.
My GPA in my sophomore year (overall) was a 3.6. I didn’t do so well my freshman year due to mono but as you can see, I’m making up for it fast!
Thank you.
