ParticipantThat’s nonsensical. It implies effort means nothing. If you can’t get a new advisor, I’d at least ignore the advice she dispenses.
Study hard for the MCAT and know your effort will impact your score.

ParticipantWell said yokelridesagain. I sure am glad he calls himself fake name or I might have thought his handle was his real name…
Not that there’s any reason to pile on, but most inventors I know, personally and otherwise, did well in school. So while fake name shouldn’t feel the need to feel low self esteem over poor grades and test scores, that’s also not a license to show bitterness to others.

ParticipantUnless they perfected artificial intelligence and I didn’t get the news, I wouldn’t rely heavily on any of those tools. I’ve seen some really bad ones and a family friend blames one of them for screwing up her son’s future. (Not saying they should be blamed for inappropriate use though.)

Very good point! If the school is large doesn’t have a list of happy alumni you can speak with in your area, then you know something is very wrong. That network can be quite valuable down the road if the alumni are active and proud of the school.

ParticipantI’ve got a buddy in law school. Take the test when you know you’ll get the score you need. They are unforgiving of low scores and won’t care if you later do better.

Originally posted by SeonaRight, which is why I said *a* med school. Statistically, if the average 24 candidate has a 1/3 shot, then if she applied to say, 9 schools, then 3 of those 9 should accept her. Of course, they could all accept or all reject her — who knows?
What I meant to say was that I heard only 1 out of 3 applicants get into any US MD programs. The rest either give up on medicine, go for the DO or go abroad.
The average applicant probably applies to 20-30 schools.

ParticipantI’ve heard it gets really tough after 40, but I bet there are a few over 40s who get into med school. Good luck!

ParticipantI thought the average applicant had a 1/3 chance of getting in to any med school. Wouldn’t that mean a 24 would not give you a can’t miss shot?

ParticipantI didn’t think a degree was required. You can check the websites of interior designers though and look at their qualifications.

ParticipantVisit the website adn talk to alumni.

ParticipantI’d be concerned if you want to return to the US but study elsewhere. How do you expect to get up to date with US practices?
If you’re not competitive enough to get into a US med school then it will be hard to become competitive at a foreign med school.

ParticipantI don’t have hte answer, but getting any kind of conviction when you are going for something as competitive and selective as medical school is giving yourself a big disadvantage. Adn that’s a big disadvantage when competing against so many talented applicants. Even if your MCAT and GPA were stellar.

ParticipantYou should begin challenging yourself. Go to a very competitive 4 year school for starters. Otherwise, you will be wasting your time.

ParticipantI heard the Saudis are going to hold a TV fundraising event.
Didn’t hear about the French pledge. Don’t know what their reasoning would be for that either.

ParticipantFollow up1: I heard more about the progressive nature. They’re attracting a lot more students from the mainland.
Follow up2: Merry Christmas to all!
