We just blogged about the law school application volume through the end of May. Law school applicants are up 3.6% while law school applications are down 1.6%.
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorHi Rodney,
Thanks for the contribution to the thread. We heard that. But at the time we published our blog, we didn’t feel comfortable printing it because we didn’t feel it had been confirmed.
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorHello everyone!
We just blogged that the University of Alabama will likely be returning Mr. Culverhouse’s gift and changing the name of the law school back to the University of Alabama School of Law. We certainly feel for those applicants who chose to attend Alabama in part because of the expected donation as well as any professors or other professionals who may have chosen to pursue employment at the law school for the same reason.
Best of luck with your applications!

Earlier today, we blogged that women are now outperforming men on the entrance exam and being admitted to Tokyo Medical University at a higher rate than their male counterparts.

ModeratorHi David,
Do you think there is any chance I could get into a top business school after its final deadline has passed? Is there any chance they have unfilled spots or will make an exception for a very strong applicant?
Hi and thanks for your inquiry.
While there’s nothing to stop you from calling the schools and making the inquiry for an exception, I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Instead I’d encourage you to take the next few months to start preparing a strong application to submit in the fall.
Best of luck with your applications!

We just blogged that the ACT will NOT be following the SAT’s footsteps and creating a similar ‘adversity score.’ Personally, we’re relieved as we’re sure most of you are.
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorHello everyone!
We just blogged about how the ABA toughened the 75% bar passage rate requirement this past Friday. This spells bad news for lower-tier law schools and applicants with LSAT scores south of 150.
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorMy son is wrapping up his junior year. We need to choose between taking the ACT and SAT. What do you recommend? He is stronger in math than in English.
Hi Ammon and thanks for your inquiry.
I would encourage your son to take an official practice test for the ACT and SAT. (See links below.)
The ACT link: http://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/Preparing-for-the-ACT.pdf
The SAT link: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice/full-length-practice-testsGrade the tests and see what percentile he would be starting at for each. If the percentiles are similar, see which one feels more comfortable to him.
Best of luck with your son’s future applications!

ModeratorI’m a college junior with a 3.6 GPA. If I hit 170 on the LSAT, can I get into a top law school? Are there any compelling reasons to take a gap year before applying?
Hi and thanks for your inquiry.
First of all, we offer complimentary assessments. They go into far greater detail than we can offer here and, consequently, are far more accurate. Call our office if you would like to schedule one.
That said, I see no reason why you couldn’t be competitive based on the limited information you provided above.
Regarding the gap year question, unless you are unsure of attending law school, have a great opportunity for your gap year or have one or more weaknesses to address before applying, I don’t think it will be necessary.
Best of luck with your applications!

Moshe Porat, the former dean of Temple Fox who was fired in the midst of the rankings scandal is suing the university for $25 million. He denies he was responsible for the rankings scandal and believes he is being made the scapegoat. He stated, “The administration at Temple took away the job I love, damaged my health and destroyed the legacy, my life’s work.”
Best of luck with your applications!

We just blogged that, as of May 1, applicants are up a bit but they’re applying to fewer schools and applying with LSAT scores below 165.

Campus police removed 16 protesting graduate students at University of Wisconsin-Madison when they refused to leave when the building closed. Police noted they were peaceful and no charges were pressed. The students were protesting for “living wages” for their union members, lower fees and improved working conditions.

Just a quick update that we found a study that suggests even a two-hour mindfulness course can help combat stress and depression in medical school students. It’s certainly worth considering if you’re heading to medical school!
