Hello everyone!
Virginia Tech approved a resolution yesterday (November 6, 2017) to begin the process of acquiring and integrating the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine effective July 1, 2018.
If that sentence reads as a confusing misstatement, it is, indeed, confusing. But not a misstatement. Carilion was founded as a public-private partnership and it was (and still is as of the time of this post) a private medical school. So, up to now, the school hasn’t been overly concerned about how many graduates go into primary care or even stay in Virginia. Expect this to change starting with next year’s applicants if all goes according to plan with the July 1, 2018 acquisition.
Best of luck with your applications!
Sincerely,
David Petersam
