University of Chicago receives $125 million gift

Hello everyone!

There has been a string of big gifts recently — most likely tied to the surging stock market — and University of Chicago was the recipient of one for $125 million from hedge fund manager Kenneth Griffin. The gift represents the second largest in the university’s history and U of C has now received over $350 million in large gifts so far this year.

The gift will mostly fund the economics department which has now been renamed the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics.
