Hello everyone!
Harvard University received a record 39,044 applications for the Class of 2020, shattering last year’s record of 37,305 applications. The number of applicants with a stated interest in computer science grew by over 22% and this is being widely attributed to the popularity of the free Computer Science 50 class offered online. Furthermore, it appears Harvard’s targeted recruitment efforts worked well as nearly 25% of applicants qualified for fee waivers based on financial hardship.
In December, Harvard announced that it was only accepting 14.8% of its early admission applicants — a new low since the EA program was reinstated in 2011. Princeton and Yale have also reported record application volumes this year. Please don’t despair as you’re reading this. There are still plenty of openings at Harvard and the other top schools for all types of students. It just means you might have to work a bit harder and smarter than previous applicants.
