ModeratorHello everyone!
On August 10, the day Charlotte School of Law lost its license to operate, it sent this letter to the UNC Board of Governors.
Additionally, Charlotte School of Law was notified earlier today (Monday, August 14) that its teach-out plan was rejected by the ABA. A teach-out plan consists of how the school plans to ensure current students are able to complete their degrees with minimal disruption in the event the school closes.
Best of luck with your applications!
Sincerely,

ModeratorHello everyone!
WSOCTV is reporting the Charlotte School of Law may be effectively closed down right now. The article linked above states that Lee Robertson, the president of the Charlotte School of Law Alumni Association, received the news via a phone call yesterday from the school. Furthermore, the article states that the Charlotte School of Law website has been taken down. (Note: We also found a “website unavailable” message when we just attempted to visit charlottelaw.edu.)
If the school is closed — and it certainly appears that way right now — current students will have to transfer to another law school to complete their degrees. Transferring, unfortunately, will not be easy given the school’s accreditation issues and, with fall classes starting soon at most other schools, it’s possible it’s too late for any of these students to transfer to another school without missing at least one semester.
If you’re a current Charlotte School of Law student, your best bet may be to try and find another for-profit law school. If you’re a prospective law school applicant, we hope this tale serves as an additional reminder about the dangers of attending a lower-ranked school. As Lee Robertson stated, “For our alumni, this news is extremely frustrating. The value of our degrees—and our professional reputations—depend in large part on how our colleagues, and the public, perceive us. It is tremendously disappointing that our alumni will likely now have to explain that their law school closed.”
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorHello everyone!
The New York Times has reported that the North Carolina attorney general’s office has confirmed Charlotte School of Law has closed.
The article linked above includes the following quote from Josh Stein, the attorney general, yesterday, “I want to express my disappointment for the students and their families affected by Charlotte School of Law’s failure.”
After over 30 years of relative stability and growth among law schools, this now marks the second law school closure this year. (Whittier Law School announced it was closing this past spring.)
Best of luck with your applications!

Specifically, the school is accused of admitting unqualified students and then manipulating records including their state bar passage rates and career placement statistics.

ModeratorHello everyone!
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy Devos announced that anyone enrolled at Charlotte School of Law on or after December 31, 2016 will not have to repay their federal student loans. Devos agreed there were extenuating circumstances with this school’s closing and extended the normal 120-day window (students enrolled at the school within 120 days of its closing do not have to repay their federal student loans) to 224 days. The move adds about a dozen more students to the loan-waiver list.
Best of luck with your applications!
