BusinessBecause is reporting that consulting firms seem set to hire a record number of consultants from the top business schools this year as strategic consulting looks to grow by approximately 15% this year. The “big three” consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, and Bain) doubled their hiring at UVA Darden this past year and hiring was up at other top b-schools as well.
Lots of MBAs start their careers in strategy consulting firms. For many, it’s a terrific experience and leads to a number of great opportunities. If you choose to attend to a top business school, we strongly encourage you to seriously consider strategic consulting as at least a fallback option. Bear in mind, however, that strategic consulting is always competitive and you’ll probably want to prepare well in advance by taking some case study strategy classes and drilling many of the widely available case interviews with your fellow students.
