    Hello everyone!

SFGate has a write up on the admissions standards for athletes to Cal Berkeley and, more specifically, athletes for the money-generating football and basketball programs. Two Cal scholars recently published a report claiming the admissions policy allows athletes with a C average and a minimum 370 on each section of the SAT subject (math, verbal and writing) to be admitted. Furthermore, perhaps because the academic standards at Berkeley are so high, the end result of these admissions standards is that the school’s football basketball players ranked last in graduation rates when compared with the country’s 72 major intercollegiate programs.

So let’s hear from you. Is this a good thing because it gives these competitive students a chance to thrive in a challenging academic environment? Is it good because it helps the school’s finances in these trying times? Is it a bad thing because more academically talented students are being denied? Or is it a good or bad thing for other reasons?

Best of luck with your applications!

It’s a bad thing. It’s so bad it’s stupid. You can’t be top notch at both academics and sports.
