Obviously GPAs are part of the admission selection process. My question is how much do they affect my success rate of being accepted?

The other half of my question is how underclassmen vs upperclassmen GPAs make a difference. I didn’t realize until the beginning of this year (my junior year) that this is my life and i need to prepare for it in high school. My GPA as an upperclassmen has been 3.9, however, when averaged with my underclassmen GPA it is a 3.4. Is there a way to communicate to colleges this change i’ve gone through? or will they take this into consideration themselves?

Harder classes are more important than easier classes and more recent classes are more important than older classes, but your first two years will still be taken into account. They’ll see the change, but you should probably explain it anyway if you are applying to some top notch school.
