Mr. Willingham:
I’ve been teaching 10 years for a catholic high school. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. I attended a graduate school (seminary) and left the school twenty years ago with 63 cumulative credits but no ordination. By the standards of our local diocese, I would already have a Masters in two different areas. But since I didn’t “graduate” or get ordained, I did’nt receive the degree. Nonetheless, I would like to earn a Masters degree but have been reluctant since I’m not sure if those credit hours will be recognized by any university (catholic or secular); and would find it discouraging in starting from scratch again.
The principal is very supportive of my efforts and is willing to send a letter of support to the Director of Education for our Diocese (the institution that has direct oversight of the school) for the purpose of recognizing these “lapsed” graduate credits.
What does your experience tell you of my particular situation? Is this the proper channel to pursue? Does this Director have any authority to re-install or “recognize” these graduate credits?
Thanks for your help.
