I have a fairly good gpa (3.78) and good activities to put on my application. However, i scored a 26 on the mcat. What are my chances, realistically, of being accepted? I already signed up to take the test again in august, but i really dont understand how schools handle that. Do they know that you are taking it again? do you have to tell them? and then do they make a decision anyway or wait for your other scores to get there?

3.59 GPA, 29.8 MCAT is your average accepted student, I think.

I had a friend who had a 3.85 GPA and a 27 MCAT and good activities and I think he got into 3 schools (including a top 50) and waitlisted at 2 (both in top 50). (Applied to around 15 schools). The AMCAS application has an option when you are filling out your information to check if you are taking the August MCAT. If you already submitted AMCAS, I would recommend notifying the schools in writing to make sure they don’t discard your application before your August scores come in. If you have not submitted AMCAS, you should try to get that together as quickly (but with care, of course) as you can because applying earlier will help your chances.

Is the MCAT another one of those tests done by the people in Princeton, New Jersey? Do they have a monopoly somehow?
