Hi,
I’m seeking some advice for writing an addendum to my French PhD application that will explain away mediocre/low GRE scores. I’m applying to a top PhD program, and though I have a great GPA (3.9) from a top-20 undergraduate institution, great study abroad experience in Francophone countries (including a Master’s degree in France w/ an A average), and great recommendations, I did not do as well on the GRE as expected (580 math and 640 verbal). I usually perform very well on standardized tests and performed in the top 95-98 percentile on both the SATs and LSATs and am wondering how to approach the addendum. Unfortunately, I waited until the last month to take the GRE and so cannot retake before the application deadline. I simply did not prepare enough and had been under a lot of pressure at the time I took the test.
My first question is– should I definitely write an addendum? Next, I’m wondering if I should mention my other high test scores in the addendum or are these completely irrelevant?
Many thanks for your advice.
