My husband (48) is thinking of SJMU – he has not taken any science / math since high school. If he does graduate, what are the odds of being accepted to a NY residency? How long is the residency – he wants internal medicine? Is medical school at 48 a realistic goal?

Hi marym and welcome to Admissions Boards!

I am not an expert and really can’t give you an accurate assessment as to what the likelihood is that your husband would have NY residency. I will say however that although it is a challenge at 48 he could still be a competitive applicant. This is contingent on his MCAT, GPA, and overall application however.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for your response. Can you tell me how St. James graduates are viewed and assessd compared to US Medical Students?
