    Help, advice, STAT!
I have a 3.44 undergrad GPA. I felt my GPA was too low to gain admission to med school, so instead of applying, I opted to go to grad school to improve my scores.
Unfortunately, the first half of grad school, I got extremely sick late in the quarter, and it was too late to drop the classes. Thus I ended up doing poorly in the courses. My GPA is now extremely low–1.5
My dream is to be a doctor. I am afraid that my dream has turned in to a nightmare. DO I still have a chance of pursing medicine, or do you think I should discontinue the program and look into another carreer? Any advice would help, from anyone!!
Thanks, I’ve been feeling really depressed these past few months!!

Any med school that would make a decision based on one semester or quarter is not a med school I’d want my doctors to be coming from. Over and over during the application process they will give you opportunities to explain that bad semester. What you need to do is prove that that semester was a bad one and that the illness was the cause by continuing to do well. It might take a couple of semesters of a high GPA (over 3.8) to show your commitment, but it will show. Get a part-time job or volunteer position at a clinic to show you care about medicine while you are at it. Finally, if you can score in the 30s on the MCATs you’ll have given med schools compelling reasons to at least offer you an interview.
