Hi, I’m a first year student at the University of California, Berkeley.

How do medical schools look at classes like organic chemistry being taken at a city college? I was not able to enroll in the second half of our ochem series for next fall, and it seems like an 8 month break between the series would be too long. In searching for an alternative, taking the class at summer school at city college was one of the few options I could find.

    Thank you for your time

As far as I’m aware, you shouldn’t take premed classes at community/city colleges, but if you need to you need to. If you don’t take organic chem II at UC Berkeley then you will want a very high B or an A in the city college course and you’ll need to back up that score with a very solid score in the biological sciences portion of the MCAT. Get an 11 or higher and they’ll definitely believe you know your stuff.
