When Tennessee Career College abruptly shut down this week, roughly 60 students were caught off guard and left to wonder what to do now with their educations.
Allegedly, the college told the students winter break was being extended by several weeks to train faculty and acquire more classroom materials. Instead, it appears the college was actively seeking a buyer.
Please don’t think I’m trying to imply that *all* for-profit schools are bad or that all such students are at great risk of seeing their schools close suddenly and their class credits being deemed untransferrable by other schools. That would be a stereotype and we all know (or should know) what’s wrong with that.
However, we did receive an email from someone who claimed to be at an international medical school and she voiced the same concerns that materialized for these TN Career College students.
So, while we all take risks whether they be getting in a car and driving or taking a job with a small start up, if you are considering a for-profit school, please be aware that the school could close suddenly and leave you stranded.
Sincerely,
