ParticipantHello,
I am a Canadian interested in a one-year mba. Based on the one-year criteria (as well as for many other reasons) Cambridge and Oxford stick out as my two preferred schools.
My Question is around my GMAT score, which I achieved recently. I wrote a 660 (85th percentile) with a heavy weighting on verbal (89th percentile verbal, 66th percental quant).
I am wondering whether or not this will be a limiting factor for my candidacy? Both schools state that the current class average GMAT score is ~680 with the middle 80% ranging from 620/640 – 720/740. Just wondering how my scores will stack up and if there is any benefit to re-writing.
A little background may be required – hopefully my work experience will make up for my lower quant score. I am an associate in a canadian investment bank in toronto (promoted from ananlyst) with approx. 4 years total experience. I only mention this because it would allude to the fact i deal with math on a daily basis – i also have excellent grades in my undergraduate finance courses…
Thank you very much in advance for answering my question… I look forward to your response.

KeymasterHi jackdaniel and welcome to Admissions Boards!
While your work experience will definitely be an asset to your admission, I am concerned about the effect your GMAT score will have on your chances. If it is possible I suggest taking it again, although without your GPA I don’t know how critical this is. If your GPA is adequate then you should emphasize it as well as your work experience throughout your application.
Best of Luck!

ParticipantOkay, I know this thread is like 2 years old, but I’m really hoping you have e-mail notification or similar set up!
I’m dying to know a North American’s perspective on the Oxford and Cambridge programs– I haven’t taken the GMAT yet, but I image I’ll have a similar score to yours (also heavily weighted verbal – I studied English/journalism undergrad, but my math skills are not so hot from years of lack of use).
If you happen to notice this post (or anyone else who has input on the Oxford or Cambridge MBA programs), PLEASE get in touch with me!!
jackdaniel — which program did you get accepted to? How did you like the program? What are you doing now? Do you think an MBA from a British university would hurt your chances at employment in the US at all? I mean, I highly doubt if it’s Ox/bridge, but what if it’s somethign less universally known, like Cranfield or Manchester?
Anyone with ANY advice on these topics, let me know.
I’m expecting around a 650 – 670 GMAT score, I had a 3.5 undergrad, and I’ll be applying with four years of experience (primarily in marketing fields).
Any ideas what my chances look like? Anyone else get into Oxbridge with similar credentials??

ParticipantDoes Cambridge have more than its name? It;s not that highly ranked for MBA.
