ParticipantDear sirs,
When I compare my numbers to the average applicant, I feel fairly confident that I will get accepted to a medical school somewhere. MCAT 32Q and GPA 3.97 Bio major Span minor
I have been extremely involved in medically related work and community service as well. But I’m starting to worry that prejudice from northeastern schools against southern universities is going to undermine my accomplishments and hard work. I’ll admit that Louisiana State University is a far cry from Harvard, but it’s still a quality institution. However, like I said, I don’t think that the rest of the country shares that opinion. Do you see the fact that I attended LSU seriously affecting my success in gaining acceptance to top 25 schools like Emory, Pritzker, Boston University, or Case Western Reserve? I’m really interested to know what you think. Thanks for taking the time to consider this.
Sincerely,

ParticipantThe undergraduate college you attend will be taken into account when the AdCom sits at the table with your application. For the most part, institutions with wide-reaching prominence in this country will undoubtedly be seen as more rigorous than locally competitive institutions. I can’t comment on where LSU stands in this regard since I know little of the institution itself, unfortunately.
I think you’re placing too much emphasis on just one aspect of your application. Your numbers are good and competitive and irrespective of where you attended college, the AdComs won’t fault you for doing well at LSU. When it comes to being admitted to med schools like Yale, Pritzker, and Stanford, even coming from a place like Harvard it would be a difficult stretch for most applicants.
You have a 32Q and a 3.97 GPA as a Biology major at LSU. You can go to a top 25 medical school, but your application has to do the rest of the work. It’s more than a matter of filling in the spaces on your application — this is your chance to put your best foot forward and hopefully gain admission to a top med school. AdmissionsConsultants offers services geared toward that very end and will help you with winning an acceptance.
Good luck to you.

ParticipantThanks for the quick and thorough response. I understand that there is more to the admissions process than just the numbers. I just wanted to know that I would have some options with medical school and would not be completely passed over because of my undergraduate institution. What you told me is encouraging.
I have another quick question that I hope you don’t mind answering…Do you have a price list for your services? I am confident that I can put together a strong application on my own, but it sounds like you guys can really help. I’m just curious about the cost. Thanks a lot.

ModeratorDear Tigerkid,
Our price list can be found at http://www.admissionsconsultants.com/medical/payment.asp. Our prices are quite competitive, particularly given the qualifications of MDs like Tim who also have medical school admissions committee experience, and we only require a minimum 1 hour payment to retain our services.
Best regards,
