    The Washington Monthly has released its second annual college rankings.

    The WM began its rankings last year as an alternative to the USN&WR rankings. The WM rankings give schools points for things like providing social mobility for students and making beneficial use of public education and research funding.

    The top five national universities on the WM‘s list are:

    1. MIT
    2. UC Berkeley
    3. Penn State
    4. UCLA
    5. Texas A&M

    The top five liberal arts colleges are:

    1. Bryn Mawr
    2. Wellesley
    3. Wesleyan
    4. Haverford
    5. Amherst
