I’ll be honest with you, admission is going to be uphill for you. Not that you won’t succeed, but it won’t come easy. Have you already taken the MCAT? How do you know you’ll only get a 30? If you haven’t already taken it, devote your life to MCAT preparation; a good MCAT score can, to a certain extent, make up for a weak GPA. However, the weak gpa is going to haunt you, especially since you started strong and then lost it. Address the issue in your personal statement, but whatever you do, don’t use your personal circumstances as an excuse for poor grades — think about how many sob stories med schools have to read every year. Take responsibility for doing poorly academically and just deal with it directly.
For you it’s also very important where you apply. Apply to as many schools as you can aford and apply widely. Focus on schools like Drexel, NYMC, Jefferson, Tulane, MCW, Vermont — schools that don’t have “name brand” status, but will still give you a solid education.
I don’t know if this will make you feel any better, it might even make you more anxious, but here is some interesting data: http://www.mdapplicants.com
