    Hey guys,

I just completed my first semester in college and recieved the following grades. (5cr)General Chemistry B+, (4cr)Organismal Biology B+, (4cr)Math A, (2cr)University Seminar A. Which brings me to a 3.597 gpa with 15 credits attempted. What do you think? Is this a good start? I’m sure that I can get a 4.0 next semester. well just looking for some feedback. Thanks

You will need some A’s in the prerequisite sciences, but you certainly haven’t dug yourself any holes. I will leave it at saying you are on track but that you could still make yourself much more competitive (especially for more selective schools).

i agree with the previous post. its a start but you need a strong (A’s) gpa in the sciences. Go for the 4.0! good luck

I had a 3.5 my first semester and I was just accepted to medical school, so you should be fine. Aim for a GPA of close to 4.0 in the future, but perfection isn’t necessary (Even Harvard has an average GPA of only 3.8). Remember however, that it is important to learn the information in all required science courses well. An A in Physics means nothing if you get a 6 in Physical science on your MCAT. Review any information in any courses in which you didn’t get an A. This will help you to do well in the future.

Also, try to get involved in some sort of patient contact job or volunteerism early. I know people with less than stellar numbers who were accepted because of extensive experience in the hospital.

Overall, you’re fine. Just work a little harder next semester.
