ModeratorHello everyone!
An interim report from Japan’s education ministry that is looking into whether other medical schools have been discriminating against female applicants after the recent drama at Tokyo Medical University found, “Inappropriate practices were discovered at several universities.”
So, it unfortunately appears the practice of discriminating against female medical school applicants was widespread. The final report is expected in December.
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorHello everyone!
A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a group of women who applied to Tokyo Medical University since 2006 demanding compensation for their entrance exam fees.
“We would not have applied if we had known about the illegal score rigging, and it has caused us great emotional distress,” reads a section of the legal document they filed. They are also demanding their correct exam scores and application results be disclosed. They requested a reply from the university within the next two weeks.
Best of luck with your applications!

Tokyo Medical University announced it will offer admission to 67 women who were wrongly rejected over the past two years. University President Yukiko Hayashi explained, “We will conduct fair entrance exams and never let the inappropriate practice be repeated. Nobody should be discriminated against because of gender.”
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorHello everyone!
There is more news from Japan regarding other medical schools and similar discrimination policies. Time published an article yesterday about two additional medical schools that rigged exams in favor of male applicants and Japan Today separately reported nine medical schools rigged exams in favor of legacy applicants because they realized that would significantly boost their admission yields.
Best of luck with your applications!

ModeratorHello everyone!
The Japan Times is reporting the results of medical student surveys that show 14% of students were asked inappropriate questions about marriage and childbirth during their admissions interviews. The survey is set to close at the end of the month and there may be another update at that time.
Best of luck with your applications!
