Hello everyone!
Daily Campus reports UConn graduate diversity officer Charmane Thurmand improperly gave her husband Martinus Evans, a graduate student, a financial aid package worth roughly $54,000. The article explains that she allegedly never notified the selection committee that one of her financial award nominees was her husband and he would have been ineligible for the award under any circumstances because it was supposed to help fund a Ph.D. student while he was only enrolled as a masters degree candidate.
Over the years, we’ve been asked many times about conflicts of interest and our answer has always been the same. There is a huge risk to this type of behavior and, if it was occurring, we certainly weren’t aware of it. Well, these allegations are one of the rare stories we come across on the topic.
