    Hello everyone!

Wired has a nice article about Americans choosing Cuban medical schools. The main reason is cost and it’s hard to argue with that given medical education in Cuba is free. Yes, you read that correctly. Medical education in Cuba is free to students of all nationalities. The article also gives some fresh insight into the emphasis Cuba places on primary care and preventive care.

If you’re interested in primary care and you’re comfortable in a Spanish-speaking setting (we’re skeptical on how much Spanish you’re going to pick up if you have a weak language foundation before the crash course), a Cuban medical education may worth your consideration. Just understand that cold showers, lack of mail from the US (well, for at least a little while longer) and six years of education instead of four are some of the ‘sacrifices’ that will come with your decision to graduate debt free. Perhaps of most importance, if you do well, our residency consultants believe you can be competitive for a US residency. Particularly if you are OK with matching to a non-procedural specialty.

Best of luck with your applications!

    Sincerely,
