I was wondering how RN’s typically fare as medical student applicants. I am an RN, BSN, with over 3 years experience on an ICU burn unit. I’ve developed multiple teaching tools r/t burn care, provided lectures r/t thermal injuries, and am a clinical instructor for a university. My GPA upon finishing nursing school was relatively poor, overall – 3.134, however my GPA upon going back post graduation for Gen chem, Ochem, and physics is 3.844 (3.63 with previous A and P). I take the MCAT in late June, I guess my question is how well will my previous endevors aid or hinder me in med school acceptance?? Any advice as to the category of med schools to apply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hi Dave and welcome to Admissions Boards!

I think you have a good background and RNs can get into med school. You may want to post this to the Ask AdmissionsConsultants thread for a better answer.

    Best of luck!
