    Hey everyone,
So here’s my story,I had a medical condition throughout college which prevented me from getting the grades needed for medical school. In order for me to do the surgeries and take care of the situation I needed a whole year off, so I made the (bad) decision of continuing school and said to myself, once I am done I’ll take a year off to take care of the situation. Since I had problems walking sometimes to exams and finals, sometimes to classes, my GPA was highly affected and I graduated with a really low GPA. Right now I have done my surgeries (almost too normal now as far as physical activities go) and trying to start a graduate program at another University. I am also planning on taking my MCAT’s in August, which I have been studying for a while. I am really passionate about medicine but my GPA IS REALLY LOW. What do you guys think I should do? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Rod5 and welcome to Admissions Boards!

I’m truly sorry to hear about your situation.

However, if your grades are very low, then it is possible med school may be out of reach. You may need to develop a back up plan. In other words, you may need to look into alternative careers or retake a lot of courses or go to the Caribbean and hope you are able to practice medicine back in the US afterwards.

    Best of luck!

    Thank you for the reply,
So are you saying if I get my masters and do fine, it will not help at all?I am also willing to retake some of my classes that I got C’s in.

    Hi Rod,

I’m not an expert. You should post these types of questions to the Ask AdmissionsConsultants thread for a qualified response.

    Best of luck!
