I completed my undergraduate career as a psychology major, changing it from microbiology within the first year. I was able to receive two degrees with a gpa of 3.5. I completed a masters program in criminal justice due to my interest in working with mental ill adults; and the gpa received was a 3.5. Currently, I enrolled in a post bacc premedical program, which has an advisor committee in order to satisfy the prereqs for medical school that were never finished during my undergrad career. As of now, my gpa is a 3.75. I recently took a practice MCAT, prior to taking the bulk of the courses required to do well on this exam, and my score was about a 25, scoring near perfect on the verbal component. My reasons for taking this exam, which is not recorded on my record, was to get an idea of the format of the MCAT.

I will be applying for medical school next year. I just dropped a bio course, not because the material was difficult, but because I work full time as a substance abuse case manager with the courts and I could not balance the work schedule with the 12 hour course load. Unfortunately, I could not devote the amount of time necessary to this class, especially since it was only offered in the middle of my work day. However, my Director is not concerned with this decision. I have a large amount of clinical experience both in and outside the hospital settings. My primary purpose of applying to medical is to pursue a career as a psychiatrist working with mental ill adults in the criminal system.

    Do you offer any suggestions?

    Dee
