How many schools to apply to?

Hi,

How many schools would the members of this forum recommend one apply to in order to maximize chances of admission? If money is not a huge limiting factor (I went to a Canadian University and saved a bundle on car insurance/tuition), what would be the ideal range? Also, perhaps someone could include a breakdown of the kinds of schools ie. how many reaches, reach-matches, matches, and “safeties”, etc.
