    Dear Admissions Experts,

I am an American, age 25, I have my B.S. in anthropology from a good school (U. of Wisconsin), earned a 4.0 GPA and I scored a 39S on the MCAT 1.5 years ago. I have completed all pre-med requirements for most schools (2 years chem/org chem, 1 year into bio w/ lab, 1 year physics, biochem, 3 semesters calculus)

I really want to live outside of the US and this has stopped me from entering medical school. I currently reside in Brazil.

Is it at all possible for me to somehow find an international career in medicine? I realize that usually doctors who talk about international work are referring to working in Africa/SE Asia doing charity 1 week per year. I am interested in living a significant part of my life abroad, and likely in Brazil.

Entering Brazilian med school is unlikely. I don’t think anyone really does that. It is impossible to get into the public programs, and private schools are very expensive, but funding is lacking.

I am wondering if it is at all possible to study and receive an MD in the US, but move on to a career in another country – in particular in Brazil. What would I need to do? Would I do a US residency? I have no idea where to look for info regarding this.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks so much.

Hi mrcarioca and welcome to Admissions Boards!

I am actually not an expert so I suggest talking to doctors in Brazil to get a sense for how well your US medical school education will be received there.

    Best of luck!
