Does taking several challenging courses simultaneously have any advantage in medical school admissions? Does is show that you’re challenging yourself, and do medical schools care? For instance, instead of taking organic chem, physics, another chem course, and a non-science elective during one semester, take those four courses and calculus 3 (III) and an upper level philosophy (writing intensive) course. Does taking more give a better impression of the applicant? Or would you just be making it harder on yourself for nothing?

No. All that maters are the grades you get in those classes. If you’ll do better by taking only a couple of those classes at a time then do that.

If you can do well with such an onerous course load, then that’s fine. Otherwise, just space things out normally. Medical schools don’t really care as long as you take the required classes and do well in them. The grades you make are the key, so remember that when you are signing up. Don’t overextend yourself – it could have serious consequences (e.g., dropping classes, poor grades, unnecessary added stress, etc.).

    Have some fun in college.
