Science published a study showing Ph.D. graduates make more money in the private sector than academia. Nearly 3,200 Ph.D. graduates from eight large Midwestern universities were tracked and nearly 40% ended up in the private sector. Perhaps not surprisingly, engineers, mathematicians, and computer scientists earned the largest salaries.
The good news to take from this is that if you have a clear vision of what you want to do with your degree, the long hours of research and writing can have a good payoff at the end!
Best of luck with your applications!
