Fortune is reporting that MBA applicant cheating has remain unchanged over the past several years. It’s very sad but, unfortunately, not surprising to us. Ethics should be reason enough not to cheat, but sadly that doesn’t deter cheaters.
So, if we can step up on our soapbox, again, let us provide three reasons that don’t involve ethics for why cheating is wrong:
1. There is software that is remarkably good at catching cheaters. Check out turnitin.com to see for yourself if you choose not to believe us.
2. The most effective essays are going to be so unique to you that no one else could use them nearly as effectively. If you have trouble understanding this, you’re going to have trouble understanding the concepts taught at b-school.
3. We live in a digital age ripe with transparency. It’s not easy to make a big mistake and sweep it under the rug. Getting caught cheating could haunt you for years to come. Even if you suppose the schools and plagiarism services would never publicly out you, how can you be certain hackers wouldn’t? See Ashley Madison if you need more convincing on this point.
OK. Hope you enjoyed this and thanks for letting us rant!
Best of luck with your applications!
