Albany Law School is launching a 2-year JD program commencing this January. The press release lauds the one year of tuition savings and the faster return to the workforce for nontraditional applicants. About 18 months ago, we wrote about how the legal profession felt about the 2-year JD option. (They wanted to see it remain a 3-year educational experience.)
Personally, we’re usually excited to see innovation in the educational sector. The 2-year program may be a good option for some law school applicants. We’re uncertain about the exact tuition savings since the 2-year students will be taking classes over their two summers instead of interning. They will also miss out on summer associate experience and we hope everyone considering the 2-year option fully understands the impact summer work experience can have on their eventual placement.
Best of luck with your applications!

David is right. The summer associate job search will make or break you. Not even attempting it to graduate in 2 years won’t be worth it for most students.
