Late last week, Indiana University received permission to launch a new Master of Science in Anesthesia Program. It becomes only the twelfth such degree program in the nation and will train students to become Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAAs). The number of CAAs has quadrupled in the past decade and more states are recognizing the certification each year. Given the cost constraints and powerful lobbying of the health care providers, we expect the CAAs to be working in every state in the not-too-distant future.
If you have an interest in a technical health care position but aren’t sure about the commitment required by medical school, this may be an option worth considering.
Best of luck with your applications!
