Hello everyone!
The Financial Times has a nice write up on the need of MOOCs (massive open online courses) to earn the trust of both students and employers before they can gain widespread acceptance. The article quotes a recent study by market research consultancy CarringtonCrisp that over 70% of employers don’t believe online classes are as effective training tools as traditional, campus-based learning. Even more distressing is that 50% of the employers would not consider hiring someone whose MBA was fully learned online.
We believe this distrust is largely due to the significant number of MBAs from online schools with very low admissions standards who have underwhelmed employers and tended to end up in positions that do not require the MBA degree. And, of course, the more established business schools don’t exactly have a big incentive to help correct this distrust at the risk of disrupting their profitable campus learning models.
Best of luck with your applications!
Sincerely,
