US News has released its 2017 business school rankings. If there’s anything that jumped out it was that Chicago Booth pulled ahead of Wharton tying Stanford for #2 while Wharton dropped back to #4. (Harvard was #1.) We know this will sound like a broken record, but, frankly, we don’t really care.
A case in point is NYU Stern whose drop is being largely attributed to their self-reported data being received by US News after their rankings deadline. Theoretically, a jump in Stern’s rankings next year could be due entirely to hitting the deadline as opposed to better placement, higher GMAT scores, etc.
Please take this and all rankings with a ‘grain of salt.’ If you choose Booth simply because it’s ranked higher than Wharton, you may be upset if the schools flip ranking spots when you are interviewing for full-time jobs in two years. If, on the other hand, you select a school because it is your best fit, you will likely be far happier with what likely will be the biggest educational investment you will ever make in yourself.
Best of luck with your applications!
Keep up with us on:
Heads should roll at US News for penalizing NYU for accidentally omitting one piece of data and not even bothering to call them and ask for it. It shows how screwed up these rankings are.
LOL heads will roll at NYU long before US News
